If the latest report from The Information is to be believed, many big companies like Amazon, Yahoo and even Samsung and Microsoft are looking to team up or even potentially buy Cyanogen Inc. — the makers of the popular custom ROM CyanogenMod.

Apparently, the founder of Cyanogen Inc., Steve Kondik, has already had a chat with Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, about this, though the outcome of the meeting is still unknown.

At the moment, it is unclear as to why all these giants are showing interest in a relatively small startup like Cyanogen. A plausible theory is that these company’s want to create an Android device that does not rely so heavily on Google’s suite of apps and services, which the Cyanogen team can deliver with its own suite of apps and services.

Cyanogen Inc. received a funding of 30$ million last year and is now preparing for its upcoming series C round of funding for later this year. The company currently pre-loads a slightly customized flavour of CyanogenMod 11 on the OnePlus One, dubbed CyanogenMod 11S.
