There's been increasing consistency about the specs for the Galaxy S5, which at this point looks as though it will definitely be launched on Monday, February 24th at the Samsung Unpacked 5 event at Mobile World Congress. Although nothing official has appeared from Samsung yet, the most likely specs floating around a while back were tweeted again yesterday from Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin and have now been backed up in a leaked securities firm document from Korea. The Galaxy S5 specs are still unconfirmed but things are looking increasingly concrete at this point in time.
This is a blown-up screengrab from the leaked document. / © Daewoo Securities Research/Samsung The specs, as they now seemingly stand are as follows: 5.24-inch AMOLED display (2,560x1,440 pixels - 561 ppi) powered by either a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor running at 2.5 GHz or a 64-bit Exynos 6 processor at 2.0 GHz. The Galaxy S5 will have 3 GB of RAM and come in either two or three internal storage versions: 32 GB, 64 GB and possibly 128 GB. There's still no news on microSD expansion though. The main camera looks to be a 16 MP ISOCELL camera (no news on OIS) with a 3.2 MP front-facing camera. The battery will be a beefy 3,200 mAh and will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat. It's hard to tell if the casing is plastic or metal and we'll have to wait and see how the fingerprint scanner works.
This could all just be fake repetitions of frequently discussed specs, but there's some other elements to the tale that ring true, including the fact that some idiosyncratic iPhone 6 details were also shared in the Korean document that seem legit. Eldar Murtazin has also claimed that the Galaxy S5 will launch with a refreshed S Band and smart home support. We still don't know the fate of Samsung's new Magazine UI after their patent licensing deal with Google recently. So we may very well see a more pared-back Android experience on the S5 in a few weeks. If not, a Google Play edition shouldn't be too far away.
