The HTC One started getting the long awaited Android 4.4 update this past week but the update has now been put on hold due to issues with the update. It appears that there are some bugs in the system. These usually occur since OEM’s alter the stock Android software with their own interface.
HTC didn’t give much away in the announcement which was made to Android Central. The statement read:
"We are aware that a limited number of HTC users are experiencing difficulties with the KitKat update. As a result, all FOTA updates have been temporarily suspended. HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience and we are working hard to resolve the issue quickly."
On the software updates page for the HTC One the update is still listed as being in the integration stage and this is for all 4 carriers and also the Unlocked HTC One.
The best way to avoid such problems is simply to get a handset which has stock Android right off the bat since Google usually sends updates to these phones earlier. Kitkat is already about 5 months old anyway and we are probably already looking at the new upcoming version of Android which might be coming out in July of this year along with the rumoured Nexus 8 tablet. If this turns out to be the case then this version of Android will be obsolete in the not so distant future.
Also HTC is said to be readying to launch its new HTC flagship phone later this month so if you were looking to upgrade your phone, you may do better to wait for the new phone.
