The Galaxy S5 will not be restricted by any carrier limitations if you live in the US when it is released globally on April 11. At this point, all the major US carriers, including some new prepaid additions have confirmed the availability of the Galaxy S5 in April, although exact dates and prices are still unconfirmed. Samsung has also announced a long list of premium app inclusions that Galaxy S5 owners will enjoy for free, worth over 500 USD.
T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, US Cellular and Sprint had already confirmed they would carry the new Samsung flagship and they have now been joined by Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile on prepaid plans. Both Virgin and Boost are owned by Sprint, so there's no major surprises there, but it's nice to know you can get the best Samsung has to offer on a prepaid plan and not just via a lock-in contract. The big question now is, when will the device be available for prepaid purchase?
As yet, the best bet we have for a price on the Galaxy S5 is around 650 USD, but this figure has not been confirmed by Samsung. The Galaxy S5 is available for pre-order in the UK for 599 GBP and in Spain for 730 EUR, both of which convert to around 1000 USD. Conversions like this rarely count however, so it is much more likely the S5 will sit somewhere in the 600 – 700 USD bracket. There's also the possibility that another premium version, perhaps even the Galaxy F, may be released soon too, but I'm done with S5 rumors for now, so we'll just leave it at that.
Are you awaiting the Galaxy S5? Will you go with a contract or prepaid?
