Have you ever asked yourself if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp? There’s a way to be sure. In order to do this, you need to use that enigmatic feature that lets you know a person’s last time online, a feature which is adored by some and hated by others. Here we go with the easy as heck tutorial.

If you would like to know more about the messaging app, we’ve collected an entire series of WhatsApp tips and tricks and we’ll refer to some of those as we go through this tutorial.

How to know if a contact has blocked you?

There are three components to take into consideration. The combination of all three indication will  show you in 99% of cases if a contact has given you the boot.

The last connection date

Like we mention earlier, you can modify the last date that you have been seen on WhatsApp. This appears on the top bar right under the contact’s name. Though this information alone isn’t enough to mean that someone has blocked you, it is the first clue out of the three to take notice of. Keep in mind the date can be faked, so it alone is not conclusive.

You know those check marks you see when sending a message (image above left, next to the purple hearts)? Well to put it simply, the first check mark means that your message was sent while the second one means that it was received by the recipient phone. This doesn’t, however, mean that this person has read it, just that it is on their phone.

You know what I’m getting at: if a contact has blocked you, this means that a message will never get two checks.

Changes to the picture and profile

Finally, if you notice that a contact hasn’t updated or changed their profile or it’s been the same picture for months, this could mean that they’ve blocked you because you don’t see the changes. If you go a step further and check from a different account, meaning from a mutual friend’s smartphone, and the information and picture has changed, well sorry to break it to you, but you have been blocked.

Do you know of any other ways to know that you have blocked?

You can also hide the last seen timestamp on WhatsApp, Line, FB Messenger and Viber.
