The sound of the camera shutter on the Samsung Galaxy S4 can be really annoying, and what's worse is that you can't disable it by default. Here's how to ditch the sound in the camera app in several Galaxy devices. It may not work for all Galaxy smartphones, but it's worth a try!

For whatever reason, legal requirement or otherwise, Samsung decided not to include the option to disable the shutter sound of the camera application in various handsets, including the Galaxy S4 and S4 Mini. There are, however, several ways to get rid of this sound, including a simple app called Mute Camera that simply lets you turn it off with the flick of a button. Great advantage: root is not necessary to use it either. Other applications exist but they generally require root privileges (you can also just delete the shutter sound file if you have root access).

Note: This is an APK, so you should first enable the installation of apps from unknown sources in your device's security settings. To do this: Settings > Security and tick the ''Unknown Sources'' box and click OK. Remember to disable this feature after installation. Camera Mute is free, but you can make a donation to the developer if you appreciate the silence that ensues. A little monetary thank-you is well deserved too, since this simple app removes the thorn from the foot of millions of users. Check the XDA thread for a full device compatibility list.

Alternative photo apps

Of course, it is also possible to simply switch the default camera app that your device uses for one without annoying shutter sounds. If you are not a die-hard fan of the stock Samsung camera app, you can install a nice alternative such as ProCapture Free.
