Google expands Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Chromecast availability to new markets

Hot on the heels of a major expansion of its content stores, Google has announced that its hardware offerings are also making inroads into new markets. The search giant has started selling the Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 5 in eight and four more European countries respectively through Google Play, and is finally ending the U.S. exclusivity of the Chromecast.

The Nexus 7 is now available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden, while the latest Nexus phone is up for sale in Austria, Belgium, Portugal and Sweden. Prices start at 349€ for the 16GB and 399€ for the 32GB Nexus 5, and 269€ for the 16GB Nexus 7 and 299€ for the 32GB model. A total of 20 countries now offer Play devices, giving consumers an easy, official, and cheaper ways of buying Google’s value-for-money Nexus devices.

As for the Chromecast, the low-cost streaming dongle will now be sold in Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and UK. Google has also revealed that new Cast-compatible versions of streaming apps, including BBC iPlayer in the UK, France TV Pluzz and SFR TV in France and Watchever in Germany, will also be rolling out today, and that more apps are on the way thanks to the recent release of the Chromecast developer SDK.
