Xperia Z1

Japanese manufacturer Sony has finally begun the much awaited Android 4.4 KitKat rollout for its flagship devices like the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact as well as the Z Ultra. The update will begin seeding immediately and could take a day or two to reach every compatible device around the world.

Here are the Sony specific changes coming with the update:

A tweaked Status Bar and Quick Settings – More intuitive and customisable.The same launch animation and live wallpaper as the Sony PlayStation 4 adapted across the lock and home screens.Sony’s native app portfolio will be updated to the latest versions. This includes Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select and Smart Social Camera.Updated Media apps including WALKMAN, Album and Movies. Better Sony Entertainment Network & PlayMemories integration with a more intuitive UI and faster download speeds.

The changelog reveals that despite featuring an almost identical camera as the Xperia Z2, the Xperia Z1 will not be getting support for 4K video recording or any new features that were shown off in the latest Sony flagship.

Sony has also mentioned that older devices like the Xperia Z, ZR and the Tablet Z will get the update by May. Newly announced smartphones like the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia M2 and the Xperia E1 will also be getting the update soon, although Sony hasn’t given out a specific timeframe yet.
